FLORIDA — As the partial government shutdown reaches day 27, Florida Sen. Rick Scott held a press conference Thursday morning on "the ongoing dysfunction in Washington."

It's only his ninth day on the job, and Sen. Scott said he's figured out that Washington is pretty broken.

“I didn’t shut down government as Governor, I don’t want the government to shutdown now.”

During the press conference, Scott said that everyone is responsible for the shutdown and that "it's too bad that we're in this position but it's got to stop."

Scott touched on the Coast Guard members who are still working and not being paid, saying it's ridiculous.  He also mentioned co-sponsoring a bill to bring back pay for Coast Guard members during a shutdown.

Sen. Scott said he has been talking to different individuals about what can get done.

In addition to fighting to ensure the U.S. Coast Guard gets paid during the shutdown, Senator Scott announced his co-sponsorship of Senator Mike Braun’s (R-IN) "No Budget, No Pay" bill.

If Congress cannot work together to pass a budget, they should not be getting paid - a key component of Senator Scott’s 10-point plan to make Washington work for families.

Scott also urged Congress to make real progress to secure the border.
