BRADENTON, Fla. -- Chants could be heard down Bradenton's Riverwalk on early Saturday.

  • Group pushes for legislation that would ban fracking
  • Rally held Saturday morning at Bradenton Riverwalk
  • Florida Senator Bill Galvano has said he would support bringing bill to a vote

"Galvano, Galvano, save our state. Galvano, Galvano, it's not too late!," a crowd of supporters shouted.

The group gathered to push for legislation that would target nutrient pollution and ban fracking.

"Our politicians are there to listen to what we say," said Brooke Errett with Food & Water Watch. "Unless we speak out, they're not going to make them issues that they act on."

Earlier this week, Senate President Bill Galvano said he would support bringing a fracking ban bill to a vote. He didn't elaborate on how he would vote on a potential ban bill.

"That's the largest step that has ever happened with this in Florida's history, and we need to celebrate that," Errett said.

While celebrating what the group dubbed a step in the right direction, they are pushing for Galvano and other legislators to vote in the name of cleaner water.

"We need to hold them accountable to actually act on it," Errett said.

Spectrum Bay News 9 reached out to Bill Galvano's office and is awaiting response.
