WINTER PARK, Fla. — Here are five things to know about the musical Ain’t Misbehavin’, which captures the spirit of American entertainer Fats Waller.

1. Fats Waller

The high energy musical revue evokes the humor and infectious spirit of the American original, Fats Waller. The show features 30 songs he made famous in a career that ranged from the Cotton Club to concert venues around the world.

2. Progress, or Lack Thereof

While Ain't Misbehavin' is uplifting, performer Meka King says the musical also illustrates how we haven't progressed much since the Harlem Renaissance.

"It's set in the 1930s, and you would think that we'd be so much further by now, but we're in a time where things are just as charged, and they're just as brutal,” she said.

3. Black History Month

The show's run coincides with Black History Month.

"So to highlight the music of Fats Waller and the music of my history and my ancestry, and to be able to do it in a space like this is just such an honor,” said Shonn McCloud, one of the five equity actors.

4. Lyrics

"One of the lyrics that just hits home for me — I cry every time we sing it — is, "I'm white inside, but that doesn't help my case,” said Faith Boles. “It is such a powerful moment because we're all the same."
