“It’s nice to help somebody and do something good,” said inmate David Freyn.

Freyn and other inmates were on work-release, doing maintenance at the West Pasco County Judicial Center when they saw the deputies trying to get into the car.

“The deputies asked me if I could get into the car. I said 'yes.' They handed me a coat hanger, so I walked up and put it in, and was able to pop the lock,” Freyn said.

The story has gone viral since last week. Freyn says he had no idea it was getting so much attention.

“Makes you feel good, you can help out with a kid in the car. It was probably hot,” Freyn said.

Freyn has been in jail since October for violating probation. He’s getting out next month and says he is already making plans.

“I’m going back to work and staying out of trouble, definitely not coming back here,” Freyn said.

The mother says she is grateful for his help. The baby was okay.
