TAMPA, Fla. — A church community in Tampa's Ybor Heights neighborhood spent their Sunday honoring the short life of an 18-year-old college student killed a week ago.

Takiya Fullwood, who was studying biology at Florida Atlantic University, was shot and killed after leaving a party.

Fullwood's family says she had dreams of taking after her mother and becoming a dentist.

No arrests have been made in the case.

The Holsey Temple CME Church dedicated its Sunday service to Fullwood. It held the service outside, and members walked around the neighborhood wearing red.

They want the community to come together to end violence, and they want justice for Fullwood.

"Our young people are dying. And we need them to survive. They’re our future," said Cheryl Scott, a member of the church.

"We're just hoping to make a difference," Pastor Anita Williams said.

Before the walk, they placed red ribbons along 15th Street North. The church is next door to where Fullwood was shot.

Earlier this week Spectrum Bay News 9 spoke to Fullwood's cousin, ValTrenda, about the community coming together and supporting their family.

"You can't help but to say that it's all love. You can love a neighbor and not know them, because the love of God is in you. And if you see that love in Takiya, you can’t help but to connect," said ValTrenda, who declined to provide her last name.

Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to contact Tampa Police or Crime Stoppers.
