WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. -- The Stano Foundation has been putting care packages together since 2015.

  • Stano Foundation sends care packages to troops overseas
  • Volunteers packed 150 boxes on Sunday
  • Boxed include hygiene items and snacks

Volunteers pack each box just right. The items in there are small but they can change a soldier’s life.

"It’s truly home in a box when they get it," founder Paula Stano said.

Stano started the foundation after her son joined the Marines. They both realized that many troops don’t quite have the support they should.

The foundation has sent thousands of care packages overseas to troops who can use them. The organization continues to get new requests.

"Somebody on a ship received one of our packages and he was just ecstatic. He wanted his friends to get one as well," Stano said.

Stano answered the call and now 100 boxes are going to that same ship, the U.S.S. Arlington. Another 50 are headed to Syria. They all include basic items that troops have trouble getting where they are stationed.

"It’s basic necessities," Stano said. "Protein bars. Hygiene items. It’s nothing extraordinary. It’s not an iPad in here. It’s basic necessities from home that they’re missing."

Stano also includes cards written by local students, thanking the troops for their service.

Several volunteers helped pack the boxes on Sunday.

The Foundation is also helping out local veterans by making care packages for those transitioning out of homelessness.
