TAMPA, Fla. — It may be April, but Tampa will be feeling March Madness for another week.

Final preparations are taking place around downtown for the NCAA Women's Final Four, which is coming to Amalie Arena.

On Sunday, the powerhouse UConn women punched their ticket to Tampa, marking the program's 12th straight trip to the women's Final Four.

Oregon joined them, winning their region final to advance to its first Final Four.

Two more teams will earn their trip to Tampa Monday as the other two region finals take place: Iowa and Baylor face off for one spot and Stanford and Notre Dame will send the fourth participant.

Event organizers and volunteers worked throughout the weekend to get the downtown area ready for the thousands of fans, media and teams that will descend on the area this week.

Work also is ongoing inside of Amalie Arena.

The party kicks into gear later this week with events at the convention center, the plaza outside Amalie Arena and Curtis Hixon Park, among others.

Many of the events are taking place outside, including a concert and fireworks show.

"We try to use as many outdoor locations as we can," said Katie Kicklighter with the Tampa Bay Local Organizing Commitee. "That helps with a lot of the electric and power usage that goes into hosting some of these events."
