PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office began a death investigation Sunday after a body was found in a retention pond behind a Winn-Dixie store location in Seminole.

Deputies were called to the scene behind the Winn-Dixie at 8740 Park Boulevard around 3:48 p.m., according to officials.

Upon arrival they confirmed the presence of a badly decomposed body laying face down in the sawgrass lining the pond. It's unclear how long the body, which appears to be that of an adult male, had been there exposed to the elements prior to being spotted.

Officials said the body, which is at this time unidentified, was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office to determine cause and manner of death.
