PALMETTO, Fla. — The principal of a troubled Manatee County school has resigned effective immediately.

Eddie Hundley announced his resignation from Lincoln Memorial Academy in a letter sent to school staff and obtained by Spectrum Bay News 9.

Last week, the school was told it had only days to create a corrective action plan or the state would be getting involved.

As of May, the school had a deficit of more than $250,000.

In his resignation letter, Hundley said: "I do this with no misgivings about my past conduct, my working record or legacy in building together with you, a school that exemplifies excellence and sets precedents."

On May 13, the state revoked his educator certificate after an administrative law judge concluded that Hundley knew about a sexual relationship between a student and teacher and then recommended that same teacher to another school.

Hundley, in his letter, called it an "action taken by an overreaching law judge." He said his resignation was in the "best interest of our students and school community."

It is unclear if Hundley will still be working at Lincoln Memorial Academy, despite his resignation as principal.
