ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.  Hurricane Jerry is a small storm compared to Humberto that just moved into the north Atlantic.  Hurricane force winds only extend out about 25 miles.  Tropical storm force winds extend out about 80 miles.

Jerry is stronger tonight — now a Category 2 — but will likely weaken a bit the next couple of days as it runs into some wind shear, which will also push a little bit of dry air into the storm.

The storm will miss the Leeward islands, passing by to the north of them.

A high pressure to the north of Jerry is keeping it on a northwest path, which will continue for the next few days, but at a slower pace.

A strong cold front coming off the eastern seaboard of the U.S. late this weekend will result in a turn to the northeast for Jerry at that time, keeping it away from the U.S.
