ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Hurricane Jerry ran into the drier air and wind shear that we discussed yesterday.

It's looking rather ragged on satellite, and Hurricane Hunters aircraft did find it to be weaker with a sloppier appearance.

Jerry will continue to fight through the wind shear and dry air over the next couple of days, so don’t be surprised if the storm weakens just a bit to a tropical storm. If that happens, it would likely be temporary, as it will then get back into a better environment in a few days to regain intensity.

As of 11 p.m. ET, here are Jerry's stats:

  • LOCATION...20.5N 62.8W
  • ABOUT 160 MI...260 KM N OF ANGUILLA
  • ABOUT 260 MI...415 KM NE OF SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO
  • MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...80 MPH...130 KM/H
  • PRESENT MOVEMENT...WNW OR 300 DEGREES AT 16 MPH...26 KM/H
  • MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...993 MB...29.33 INCHES

A tropical storm watch is in effect for

  • St. Maarten
  • St. Martin
  • St. Barthelemy

As of right now, it looks likely Jerry will move northwest until Sunday, when it will finally start turning north and then northeastward away from the U.S.

Down the road next week, Jerry might move close to or over Bermuda, but otherwise it will stay away from land.
