TAMPA, Fla. — A second week of testimony started Monday in the Granville Ritchie murder trial, with the state resting its case at about 5 p.m.

Ritchie is accused of raping and killing Felecia Williams, 9, on May 16, 2014. Police said he strangled the girl, raped her, put her body in a suitcase and threw it into the water near the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

On Monday, jurors heard from Temple Terrace Police Capt. Michael Lowell. He was involved in the initial search for Williams. He testified that — with the help of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office — they searched by air and ground.

"We were looking for any sign of her," Lowell said.

Lowell said that sand samples were collected near where Williams's body was found. Sand samples were also collected from Ritchie's car.

Kellisa Kelley, who testified that she is still Ritchie's girlfriend, also took the stand. She owned the silver Lexus that Ritchie was driving in May 2014.

Kelley said Ritchie took her car and left her stranded at a St. Petersburg insta-loan.

"He told me he needed to do something. I said do what, you don’t even know anybody around here," she said.
