“I don’t know if it was propane tanks or what. A bunch of explosions. The flames were probably like 40 feet in the air. At least 40 feet,” said Kenneth Arent, who lives across the street.

He says his initial reaction was to dial 911, and his second reaction was to do everything he could to keep the flames from spreading to his trailer.

“So I went up on the roof of my RV and I was knocking the ashes off and my wife was spraying our awnings and the roof at the same time,” said Arent.

Fire officials say trailer fires tend to spread quickly, which can make them especially dangerous.

“They were ignited very quickly and they were fully involved very quickly. So the homeowners being out is a great thing,” said Robert Angell, Deputy Chief of Operations with the Pinellas Park Fire Department.

We spoke with the owner of one of the trailers off camera, who tells us the whole thing happened so quickly.

She says she woke up to her dog barking, and within minutes, the entire trailer was on fire.

“They lost everything. He has a t-shirt and a pair of shorts, and she has her pajamas right now. So we’re trying to get them some clothing and their phones. Everything is totally destroyed right now,” said Angela.

The owner of the other trailer was not home at the time.

Arent says after seeing this, he plans to spend his weekend installing new smoke detectors in his RV.

As for the exact cause of the fire, that remains under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the victims in their immediate needs, and anyone who wishes to help can contact Robert’s Mobile Home Park at (727) 577-6820.
