LARGO, Fla.The Pinellas County School Board is scheduled to discuss medical marijuana use for students.

There is an approaching deadline to make a decision about the school district's policy.

On Tuesday, the school board will set a date for a public hearing to talk about what their medical marijuana policy will be. And this is something every school district in Florida will have to do before the end of the year.

School districts have until December 1 to submit a draft policy and until December 31 to file an adopted rule, afterwards there could be penalties.

State law requires Florida schools to create a medical marijuana usage policy

Some districts adopted a policy that requires medical marijuana be given outside of school hours when possible. And would only allow a parent to administer it during school hours. School employees would not be allowed to handle it.

Today's meeting is just to set a date for a public hearing on the measure.
