CLEARWATER, Fla. — Clearwater police are investigating a death following a disturbance at a McDonald's restaurant.

  • Police said man was acting erratically, tried to jump over counter
  • Man was taken to hospital, where he died

Officers responded to the McDonald's located at 539 South Missouri Avenue Monday just after 6 p.m. 

According to witnesses, a man entered the store and began acting erratically. The man was acting violent and trying to jump over the front counter, authorities said. 

A restaurant employee managed to hold him down until police arrived. Suspecting he was under the influence of something, police called for an ambulance 

Paramedics arrived as police were still trying to settle the man down. He lost consciousness and was rushed to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No cause of death has been released - and it’s unclear what if any toxicology tests were done.

Police are still investigating.
