DEMOPOLIS, Ala. — Human remains were found Tuesday in the search for a 5-year-old Florida girl who is the subject of an Amber Alert.

The remains were found in a wooded area in Demopolis, Alabama, in a search for Taylor Rose Williams. That's about 100 miles west of Montgomery.

Police are still working to confirm the identity of the victim.

Taylor was reported missing from her Jacksonville home last Wednesday. Her mother, Brianna Williams, on Monday was called a person of interest in her disappearance. Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said she had stopped cooperating with the investigation, and that the mom and child hadn't been seen together in months.

Brianna Williams, who is not related to the sheriff, works at a Jacksonville Navy base. FirstCoastNews.com reports that she is originally from the county where the remains were found.

A statement from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says several Alabama police and fire departments, three FBI offices, the Alabama Attorney General's Office, and other agencies have participated in the search.
