And for some, that comes in the form of giving back.

Volunteers were up early and working hard this Thanksgiving at Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa. Workers prepped 1,500 pounds of turkey and 1,200 pounds of mashed potatoes for a massive feast for anyone in need.

Preparations started earlier this week but crews were in the Metropolitan Ministries kitchen before 4 a.m. Thanksgiving morning.

In addition to the turkey and mashed potatoes, they whipped up 1,200 pounds of stuffing, 1,300 pounds of vegetables, 80 gallons of gravy and 1,000 pies. All today's food was served at Metropolitan Ministries locations across the Bay area.

About 6,000 people were fed Thursday throughout Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, and Polk counties.

The number of meals served for the entire Thanksgiving season (October, November, December) is 268,600. This includes food boxes provided through our outreach centers, hot meals given through meal partners, campus resident meals, and the holiday tents.
