LARGO, Fla. — Largo police said a woman stopped caring for three dogs she had locked away in cages and is responsible for their "cruel deaths," according to an arrest report.

  • Jasmin Halkic, 34, charged with felony cruelty to animals
  • She posted bond, has been released from jail

Jasmin Halkic, 34, was arrested Monday on a felony cruelty to animals charge.

Halkic had two pit bulls locked away in cages inside her mobile home and a Chihuahua locked inside a small crate outside the home under a stack of cardboard boxes, according to police.

Detectives said they found all three dogs in different stages of decomposition and surrounded by fecal matter.

Police said Halkic admitted that she was aware the animals were sick or became sick in her care and at some point stopped caring for their basic needs.

Halkic was released from the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday after posting a $5,000 bond.

Spectrum Bay News 9 tried contacting Halkic at her mobile home but nobody came to the door.
