POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A Polk County jazz musician who recently performed at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday just returned from teaching students about jazz in Haiti.

Jazmin Ghent was in Port au Prince for seven days in January.

She performed twice at the International Jazz festival there.

She said she loved how passionate the students and concert-goers were about music.

"I met a student who he didn't have a saxophone but he was a saxophonist and he stood up and played an awesome saxophone solo. He sounded amazing," Ghent said.

"That just shows ... I mean here we are, it's so easy to make excuses when we have so many resources right here at our fingertips and people who don't have those are still making it happen."

She also enjoyed her stay at Karibe Hotel.

Ghent recently quit her job as a music teacher at Crystal Lake Elementary to pursue her music career full-time.

Her three albums are on iTunes.
