The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Central Avenue in Lake Wales, according to the school district. The bus serves students who attend Ben Hill Griffin Jr. and Frostproof elementary schools.

As a result of the injury, law enforcement was contacted, and the bus attendant was taken to a local hospital. According to the Polk County Sheriff's office, the bus attendant suffered a shoulder injury, but investigators are not sure how.

Their injuries are said to be not life-threatening, Polk County Public Schools said in a released statement.

"We cooperate with law enforcement whenever a student is accused of harming (a bus worker)," the district's statement said. "We are limited in what information we can provide on this incident due to student privacy laws. However, any appropriate discipline will be handled in accordance with the student code of conduct."

The 12-year-old student was taken into custody under Florida's Baker Act following the incident, the sheriff's office reported. That student has been held under the Baker Act four times previously.

At this time, there are no criminal charges pending.
