TAMPA, Fla. — As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

“I like to just come and see how it goes. Start at one point and have it radiate out sort of,” said street artist Jerry Cahill.

Cahill lets his painting do the talking.

“I hope it just puts smiles on people’s faces. Makes their day a little brighter,” said Cahill.

And up the street, another artist has a different approach, but the same goal.

“Some days, if it’s a rough day or whatever, I need to hear that my eyebrows look good or whatever. So I’m hoping that when people pass or come to stop and take a selfie with it, it will be a battery boost, you know what I mean?” said Camaron Parker as he shows us his painting which reads, “OMG YOUR EYEBROWS LOOK AMAZING.”

That’s the whole point of the third annual Tampa Bay Fresh Fest, bringing nearly 50 street artists from around the country to add a fresh look to Tampa.

“Your eyes will tell you. You’ll see the most innovative, the most colorful, the most just popping off the wall artwork on the streets right now. There’s a global movement happening, and that’s what I’m trying to bring to Tampa,” said Eric “ESH” Hornsby, founder of the Tampa Bay Fresh Fest.

Taking away the negative connotation that sometimes comes with street art and graffiti, and replacing it with a splash of color the whole community can enjoy.

“I want people to feel inspired. I want people to see this stuff and be like, ‘Wow, that’s really impressive.’ Not that my work is so impressive but that it’s there for them. Like, ‘Wow, somebody took the time to create a piece to inspire me and touch me as I’m walking down the street here in Tampa,’” said Hornsby.

The pieces are expected to be completed this weekend, and will officially be displayed in a mural fest on Saturday.
