TAMPA, Fla. — There's a growing push for more funding for Florida's child welfare system.

Chris Card is the Chief of Community-Based Care for Eckerd Connects, the foster care agency responsible for Pinellas and Pasco Counties.

He said a bill being discussed in the Senate would change how agencies across the state recieve funds.

"The money would follow each individual child so there would be a set amount of money for how many kids you get into the system," Card explained.

Right now, the counties get a set amount of money, regardless of the number of kids.  Card said the new funding model would allow Eckerd Connects to better care for each child.  That would include hiring more case managers so they can handle fewer cases at a time.

Senators are scheduled to discuss the bill Thursday.

Card said they will likely make changes before sending it to the house.
