WIMAUMA, Fla. — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a teenager Wednesday evening in Wimauma.

According to deputies, the shooting happened just before 7 p.m. at a home in the 500 block of 9th Street. 

Authorities said the 17-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound inside the home. Deputies said they arrived within 10 minutes of getting the 911 call but the teen died at the scene. 

"This is yet another tragic situation that has taken the life of a young person far too soon," said Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister. "If you have any information, please call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Any tip could be the one that solves this case."  

Officials have not said if they have a suspect.

It is not clear if anyone else was in the home at the time of the shooting. The sheriff's office spent the evening reaching out to anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has any information about the incident.
