NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Today's Everyday Hero has dedicated half his life to helping animals.  Austin Testa, 12, proves you're never too old or young to make a big impact in your community.

At the S.P.C.A. Suncoast in New Port Richey, Testa started the "Every Bark Counts" nonprofit that raises money for the animals and helps shelters and rescues.

Since he was six, Testa has raised $78,000 through a GoFundMe page and local fundraisers, like selling candy and popcorn.

With that money, Testa busy food and supplies for smaller animal shelters and rescues.

Testa has even rescued dogs from kill shelters. A dog named Burt is Testa's last rescue.

"Well, Burt, when I saw him, he was on Facebook. He was going to be euthanized in an hour at a shelter," Testa said.

Burt's time had run out, but Testa said, not on my watch. He reached out to the shelter and arranged to pay for him to stay at the S.P.C.A. Suncoast until Burt gets adopted. Testa is also paying for Burt's training so he'll find that forever home.

As for Testa, he plans to continue working with animals when he grows up.
