ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - YMCAs across Tampa Bay are offering a much-needed resource for parents considered essential workers while providing a sense of normalcy for kids.

It’s thanks to a partnership of the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA, YMCA of the Suncoast, and YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg. Twenty-one locations across Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Hernando, and Citrus counties will offer all-day childcare for children of essential workers, including first responders and health care providers.
"One of the greatest things we know that kids need is that sense of normalcy. A lot of these kids are coming our way anyway everyday, but one of the greatest things we could understand is for the mental health of children to create that,” said YMCA of the Suncoast President & CEO Scott Goyer.
The program costs $50 per week. Officials said financial aid could be available for families who can’t afford that, and no child will be turned away if a family can’t pay. (NOTE: When this story was posted last week, the fee was $125. It has since been changed.)
Childcare will run Monday through Friday at the following locations:
