WINDERMERE, Fla. — A child with an art teacher mom is probably chin-deep in all kinds of creative stuff as we ride out this COVID-19 pandemic. But if your Mom is not particularly savvy in that department, we've found a pro who's demoing some ideas from her Windermere driveway.

1. Karen Mcgowan is a home school Co-Ops art teacher. “Well, these are gold right now," she laughs, holding up a toilet paper roll. For this Friday's On The Town report (watch segment above), Karen shows us how to make the cutest little owls using "whatever art supplies that you have."

2. In our current and weird climate, we really don't have the time to run out of things to do at home. Right? Think about it. We're all trying to utilize this thing called "free time" perhaps more productively. So, for instance, pull out that aluminum foil. It doesn't just keep your casserole fresh. It also can create "stained glass," she says. “What I tell my students is anything that is silver is the new white." Using the foil as a canvas, “I do nonsensical things with my kids, too, so I might say, 'Draw a cupcake holding up a heart.'”

3. Another idea to do (either indoors or out on the driveway on a folding table) is to draw using familiar shapes. For instance, drawing a cow starts with a jellybean-shaped nose and "the ears are basically ovals."

4. Want step-by-step instructions on a bunch of projects? Karen has a YouTube channel.
