HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - Hiam Chehab said what was supposed to be a nice evening out with family in Lebanon quickly turned into a scene from a horror movie when she heard the explosion just about a mile away.

“This was the scariest thing I’ve ever been through,” she said.

Like every summer, the Chehab family was vacationing in Lebanon. “I was with my husband and a friend of mine and my grandson and my son. We were like a big party. We were like many families trying to get together.”

Daughter Mona stayed behind. She was at work when she heard about the explosion.

“It was about 20 minutes after the explosion happened. We’d been trying to call them all day long just to talk,” Mona added.

She said after several attempts she finally made contact with her family and they were all safe. She said an explosion is not unheard of in Lebanon.

“When I first heard of it, my initial concern was just to make sure that they were safe. It was only after I saw the video and how large it was and the magnitude that I realized how bad it was,” Mona said.

Hiam added, “We were in the car and I heard some kind of like plane, like low, flying low or something and the sound reminded me of when it was war.”

The windows in her car are all shattered. Now more than 48 hours later, she’s still unable to sleep.
