PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Starting Thursday, supervisors of elections across Florida will begin mailing out ballots to voters.

And despite the ongoing debate over mail-in ballots, supervisors of elections across the state continue to say voting by mail is safe and easy.

Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley's office is sending out more than 130,000 ballots.

What You Need To Know

That’s about a third of the voter roll.

In Hillsborough County, the elections office is sending out more than 330,000 ballots today – twice the number from 2016. According to Spectrum Bay News 9 partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, more than 4.5 million mail-in ballots will be shipped to registered Florida voters.

Officials say the pandemic is the main reason why.

However, there’s been an increase nearly every year throughout Florida, thanks to no-excuse absentee voting, which is the same thing as mail-in-voting in this state.

“This is historic, record setting,” Corley said. “It’s like nothing we’ve seen. This has been ongoing.”

The number of mail-in ballots requested has grown each election cycle but it has taken off like never seen for this upcoming election.

Also, even though mail-in out ballots are going out today, voters can sign up for a mail-in ballot up to 10 days before the election.

You also can drop it off an elections office in your county or at early voting locations and you can even track your mail-in ballot online to make sure it was counted.
