More than 50 officers from Manatee County have been called to help enhance security measures in Washington, D.C. for the inauguration.

“It’s a lot different since the last inauguration, but we are very excited to be here,” says Capt. Brian Theirs of the Bradenton Police Department.

Even though most festivities will be done virtually, his team will be in charge of the inaugural parade.

“Our officers are extremely excited, they are proud to be here ... we are proud to represent Bradenton and Florida like we should,” Thiers said.

The Bradenton Police Department has taken part in presidential inaugurations since 2005.

Police officers from Palmetto, Holmes Beach, New College of Florida and the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee will also be in attendance.
