In most ways, Aidan Bisset is much like every other senior graduating this month from Jesuit High School in Tampa.

But this 18-year-old recently landed a deal with Capitol Records — something even his close friends didn’t know about.

He spoke with Spectrum Bay News 9’s Dalia Dangerfield about his road to musical success.

You started writing the song “Communication” in November — during the pandemic. Why?

“When I started it, I wasn’t being very social at the time. I felt like a lot of people weren’t being very social because they couldn’t be very social. My communication was kind of just getting lost — period — and I wanted this song to be like calling out, like, communication is important. It’s what keeps our relationships and strengthens our relationships. And that was me calling out, like, I need to talk. I need people. I need to express how I feel. So, when it all started coming together, it was me like calling out to the world.”

Why did you decide to keep this musical talent a secret from your friends?

“I was a little worried what the guys would think with me in such a vulnerable state.”

Tell us about how the deal with Capitol Records came about.

“He “DM’d me on Instagram. He said, ‘Yo man, I like your stuff. I’d like to get on a Zoom call with you. I was like, ‘Yeah, okay, this is a joke. It has to be a joke. There’s no way someone from Capitol Records is calling me right now. He was like, ‘Dude, this is serious. I wanna hop on a call. And I was like, ‘Okay, this isn’t a joke. This is real. This is not something to joke about anymore. This could be a dream come true.”

Why do you enjoy music?

“Just for a moment, you can be taken away and just feel like you have a whole new life waiting for you in music. It’s awesome.”

Who’s your favorite musician?

Wallows Rock Band

What do you want for your immediate future?

“I remember one of the first concerts I went to, I really had a personal experience with a band. It was only 50 of us in there, and I remember feeling like I connected with them. And I want to have that same connection with people who listen to my music. It’s such a powerful feeling.”

What are your plans for the distant future?

“If I could be the next Justin Bieber that would be pretty awesome. Just having music in my life — for as long as possible.”

Do your friends treat you differently now?

“I’m just a normal kid, man. All my friends treat me the same.”
