Polk County is gearing up to welcome three new schools to the district, and that’s come with several new job opportunities.

Despite the sharp decline in production and movement due to COVID-19’s lockdown order in 2020, Polk County has been ranked as one of the fastest growing regions in the nation.

That growth has now trickled down to schools.

“We have 380 vacancies and 162 of those are teacher vacancies,” said teacher engagement leader, Jessica Solano. “We have two new elementary schools and one new high school.”

Davenport is welcoming a Davenport High and Bella Citta Elementary.  Mulberry is welcoming Willow Oak Elementary.

“Quite a few of the positions posted now and throughout the summer are new positions,” said Solano.  “Of course when we open up new schools, a lot of our teachers transfer to those schools creating positions elsewhere.”

Solano said that outside of obtaining your bachelor's degree, the biggest qualification is a love and respect for the students.

“You can show competency to start teaching on a temporary certificate and then you can work towards the renewable certificate once you get in the classroom,” explained Solano. “We’re looking for teachers who know the content knowledge and love the kids and willing to do what it takes for students to perform well.”

Polk County school district is also looking for bus drivers, custodians and athletic coaches. A virtual job fair will be help on August 11.
