HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Hillsborough County deputy was shot Friday morning at the scene of a barricaded person in Brandon.

The barricade situation started at about 9:30 a.m. and ended after 4 p.m.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened in the 1000 block of N Taylor Road.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said it took about seven hours of negotiations to subdue the suspect identified as 48-year-old James Allen Jackson. He will be charged with two counts of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, among other charges. Chronister said his deputies at the scene made more than 200 calls to Jackson, trying to get him to surrender.

Jackson was taken to a hospital for injuries after being shot in the torso.

The deputy was taken to an area hospital, treated and released. The sheriff's office said on Twitter that the 33-year-old deputy is expected to make a full recovery.

A SWAT team, Crisis Negotiation Team and a bomb team all responded to the scene.

There was no immediate threat to the public, authorities said.
