GREENSBORO, N.C. —  A historic North Carolina theater is revamping.

The Carolina Theatre of Greensboro is currently undergoing a $600,000 renovation that started in July 2022.

Leaders say it's part of the "Setting a Stage Campaign" to improve the audience and artists' experience inside the theater.

“New carpet, new seats, improvement to the bathrooms," said Betty Cone, honorary chair of the theater group. "An enlargement to the ladies bathroom, in the crown we put in a catwalk.”

Cone says it's important to also preserve and restore the outside and increase the quality of the theater overall.

“That sense of ours is important. And it's been here since 1927, and hopefully it’ll be here in 2027 and 2127.”

The project is in its final step of fundraising. So far, they’ve reached a goal of $400,000 and are still collecting donations.
