There is lots of hardware to be earned out at the FHSAA State Wrestling Championships in Kissimmee this weekend. Friday began the competition with Class 1A with 12 different weight classes competing out of the Civic Center.

In the first session a local from Umatilla made a name for himself—senior Chris McEntire benching a personal best 305 to essentially set himself up for gold in the 154-pound class--lifting a total of 580 pounds to become the school’s first ever weightlifting champion.

The second session brought out the larger weight classes and two more local champs-- for River Ridge senior Christopher Schwarz it took his second trip to states to earn the crown --clinching gold in the 199-lb group (325 bench, 330 clean/jerk)—winning by tie breaker, weighing 2/10ths of a pound lighter than Orange Park’s Jordan Morrissette.

Over at the last mat in the place, in the unlimited group, another senior in South Sumter’s Montel Presley gets to leave a footprint on the state’s largest stage dominating the group lifting 80-pounds more than his closest competitor to top the podium. Presley put up 435 pounds on the bench and 345lbs in clean and jerk.

Competition continues on Saturday with Class 2A for a complete list of winners click here.
