The Mitchell defense stood tall with the game on the line to help the Mustangs hold on for a 14-13 victory over Chamberlain in the 6A Region 2 Quarterfinals.

West Pasco County's first ever undefeated team improved to 11-0 and won a playoff game for the second straight year. The Mustangs will host undefeated Ocala Vanguard in the Region Semifinals.

The Chiefs started drives inside of Mitchell's 25-yard line twice in the fourth quarter but the Mustangs defense held Chamberlain to field goals both times, with Josue Mondragon's second field goal pulling the Chiefs within one.

On Mitchell's final drive, it was time to let Mychael Hamilton take over. The Mustangs' all-time leading rusher picked up two key first downs, including a 17-yard run to seal the win. He earned Player of the Game honors and finished with 142 rushing yards, his ninth straight game of over 100 rushing yards.

Hamilton started the scoring in the first quarter, as his 61-yd burst through the middle would set up his 4-yd TD run to put Mitchell ahead 7-0. Chamberlain answered with a 58-yd TD run from Yahsin Wooten, who ran for a game-high 144 yards.

Later in the first quarter, Jakob Mattos connected with Stephaun Peters on a 68-yd TD pass down the sideline. Peters stepped out of bounds before catching the ball, but the referees ruled he was pushed out of bounds, therefore the reception was legal.

Chamberlain, which was making its first playoff appearance since 2008, finishes the season 8-3, just two years removed from a 2-8 season.
