The Hagerty Huskies have played with a chip on their shoulder all season.

Losing a state championship game in dramatic fashion like the Huskies did last year will create that chip.

Lincoln knocked that chip right off with a 5-1 victory to claim the 8A championship, the first in school history.

The Trojans came into the game riding an 18-game win streak. Hagerty came armed with a hunger to avenge last year's 9-4 loss to Steinbrenner in the 8A championship game, a game the Huskies led 4-1 going into the seventh inning.

Austin Abbe got the start on the mound for the Huskies. And he helped retire 10 of the first 11 batters he faced. He left in the seventh with a final line of six and two-thirds innings pitched, five runs off five hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

Hagerty took advantage of several Lincoln errors to take an early lead. A pair of fielding errors in the first put Huskies runners on first and third and then a passed ball sent Brian Ellis across the plate to put Hagerty up 1-0.

Not to be outdone by Abbe, Lincoln's starting pitcher Zach Taylor retired 10 of the final 12 batters he faced. Final line for Taylor, who pitched the complete game, one run off four hits, six strikeouts, no walks.

Through the first three innings, there was only one hit for both teams, and then Lincoln's Austin Pollock launched one over the right field wall for a two-run homer as the Trojans took a 2-1 lead.

Hagerty had a chance in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game, but Riley Greene was tagged out at home.

Lincoln added to its lead in the fifth with an RBI single and a run scored on a passed ball. They got another in the seventh with another passed ball.
