A life size bronze statue couldn’t quite capture what Tim Tebow means to the University of Florida football.  Now his name is displayed in 18 foot wide 5 foot high lettering in the north end zone of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The man whose name has become synonymous with Gators football became the 6th member of Florida’s Ring of Honor Saturday.   Tebow was honored in front of a sellout crowd after the first quarter of Florida’s game versus rival LSU.

Under Tebow the Gators reached the peaks of college football,  winning national championships in 2006 and 2008.  In 2007 Tebow won the Heisman trophy.  He finished his college career with 9,285 and 88 touchdowns passing to go along with 2,947 yards and an SEC record 57 touchdowns rushing.

After his decorated career at Florida, Tebow went on to play three years in the NFL.  He is currently an outfielder with the New York Mets organization and a college football analyst for the SEC Network and ESPN.
