There’s a protocol for college football games. Fans pack the stadium early and cheer loudly for their team.

That’s been the standard inside Spectrum Stadium on UCF game days. Lately the new norm is to cheer for the Knights and for one fan who doesn’t even make a sound.

“People come up to me and ask for photos. You’re the ‘stare down kid’, you’re the guy with the face.”

That guy is UCF freshman Anthony Allan whose gained fame as the Knights’ ‘Stare Down Kid.’ Anthony’s rise to fame began on a Friday night in late September at the Bounce House against FAU.

“The camera guy was looking for people for the dance cam or whatever it was,” Allan said. “I was like, I’m just going to stare at him and he says wait a second, I’ll put you on.”

What ensued afterwards can only be described as pandemonium. Anthony’s stare at the stadium camera sent the crowd wild with cheers. He instantly gained a reputation on Twitter as the ‘Stare Down Kid.’

The following week at UCF’s home game against Pittsburgh, Anthony took his signature look to another level. The freshman created ‘fat heads’ of him and T-shirts with his face smacked across the front. When the dance cam panned to him, the stadium went wild.

Don’t be fooled. This isn’t just a spur of the moment decision. Anthony’s stare is requires a process and a total team effort.

“Since he can’t look at the jumbotron, I kind of have to make sure he knows when he’s on there so he knows when to do certain things,” said Anthony’s friend and roommate Spencer Brant.

While Anthony stares at the camera, Brant issues a quick tap to let him know when he’s live on the jumbotron. Spencer lays the groundwork, Anthony carries out the excecution.

“I can’t go crazy or anything,” Allan said. “I just got to sit there and focus and stare into the camera.”

His fame continues to grow. Anthony has been spotted at various Orlando sporting events issuing his trademark glare. He’s constantly getting photo requests from fans and even Knugget, UCF’s mini horse.  Even the players he cheers for on game day have become fans of his.

“I’ve met a couple of football players outside of the game,” Allan said, “and they’re like you’re the guy, you’re the guy and I’m like yeah. They’ll dap me up and go you’re so cool dog.”

Anthony says he will continue his tradition of staring into the stadium camera and hopes it will bring UCF even more good luck.
