TAMPA, FLA --

It’s Friday night.

And the Plant High School moms are preparing the pregame meal.

These Panthers take their team mom duties seriously making sure the players are well fed before the game. Except they’re not feeding Plant players. Those are Leto Falcons

“It shows that people really care," Leto quarterback Michael Threatt said. "People are really out there rooting for us, which means a lot.”

Ever since Plant defeated Leto 69-6 on Oct. 12 and the Plant moms found out about their lack of pre-game meals,  they sprang into action.

“When they came to play Plant a few weeks ago, we really just felt something special about this team," said Lynda Spofford. "They’ve got a really special program here.”

Leto is special, with a special set of circumstances most programs in the county don’t have to deal with. Their numbers are low, their wins even lower.

“It takes a lot to keep playing through all those years cause a lot of people can’t deal with all the losing that we’ve been through," Threatt said, "but you’ve got to just keep fighting.”

“A lot of these kids don’t play football, they don’t grow up playing football, so you kind of have to start from ground zero,” Leto head coach Joey Jaime said.

That includes learning how to do a pre-game meal. And the Plant moms were more than happy to provide a game plan.

“We’re blessed to have good people around in this county to be able to help us out," Jaime said.

The last time Leto won a game, Oct. 17, 2014. A 44-game losing streak but these boys keep coming back.

“It says a lot about their character and I think it says a lot about their coach," Spofford said. "These kids are winning and everybody that’s a part of this program is winning as well.”

Maybe not winning on the field, but more importantly, winning off of it.

“It’s a win in life," Jaime said. "It shows, like I said, there’s great people out there. So, just being a good person is what really matters at the end of the day.”
