The Mustangs of Lakewood Ranch are off to their best start in school history and a big reason why is Junior Hurler Brooklyn Lucero.

"Brooklyn is a kid that just keeps getting better, she just came to us in her sophomore year we just knew there’s some things you just can’t teach, she’s 5’10 you know scrapping kid and an incredibly hard worker and over the last couple of years she’s just become a real fierce competitor" says her coach T.J. Goelz

Lucero is part of a loaded Mustangs pitching staff that has given up a total of just 25 runs in the first 22 games.

A North Carolina State commit, Brooklyn is unbeaten on the season and has lost just one game over the last two years. It's easy to get drawn in by her ubeat personality and her passion for the sport she loves.

"I love softball as it is just when you have everyone with that excitement and that wanting to win and it adds to the intensity and the motivation of wanting to keep winning".

The Mustangs are currently the number one ranked team in the state, and after losing in the state 8-A semi finals a year ago, Lucero and her teammates have some unfinished business this year.

Lakewood Ranch has never won a state championship in softball and neither has Manatee county. Two goals that could be accomplished with one win.
