Now that they're out of school, many kids are out looking for a summer job.

Getting there can pose a challenge, but in Manatee County, transit is helping bring young people and employers together.

The community reached out to Ryan Suarez, planning manager for Manatee County Area Transit.

"And they're telling us, 'Hey look, we need to get our students, our folks, our youth over to their jobs during the summer months. Is there anything you can do for us?'" Suarez said.

For all of June, July and August, any person 19 years of age or younger can get a summer youth bus pass for $25.

A regular monthly pass is $40, so the program will save young riders nearly $100 over the summer.

Another key part about the program is the employer can sponsor the teenager's ride to work.

"So, there'll be a tool on the web where they can send a pass to a phone," Suarez said. "And those students, those youth use our mobile ticket app."

The e-ticket has a different picture and color on it every day. Also there is movement on the ticket so the driver knows it's valid. Once it's activated by the rider, there is a time limit where it must be used before becoming inactive.

"At the same time, this summer youth pass has a banner on it that says summer youth," Suarez said.

That prompts the driver to check the ID against the name on the ticket.
