LAKELAND (Bay News 9) -- A well-known doctor has resigned from the staff of the Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Dr. John Caravello, who served as the chairman of the medical center's obstetrics-gynecology department, resigned as a member of the hospital's medical staff. He is also resigned from his position at Lakeland OB-GYN.

A spokesperson for LRMC said the resignations come following a recent incident. According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the Lakeland Ledger, allegations were made against Caravello, and so the hospital conducted an internal investigation.

Officials would not describe the nature of the allegation against Caravello.

The doctor began practicing medicine in Florida in 1997. His file on the Department of Health Web site shows no disciplinary actions against him during that time.
