NASA announces new Space Launch System
On September 14, 2011, NASA announced plans to move forward with development of the Space Launch System - or SLS.
The SLS, will be designed to carry the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, as well as important cargo, equipment and science experiments to Earth's orbit and destinations beyond.
The first development flight, or mission, is targeted for the end of 2017.
