Rewards of up to $5,000 have been offered for information leading to the person who shot a dog three times and tied the animal to train tracks.

At approximately 5:23 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to three separate calls involving shots fired in the Sulphur Springs area.

Approximately 100 feet north of Eskimo Drive, the responding officer observed a one to two-year-old female mixed-breed pit bull tied to the railroad tracks with a belt.

The dog, named Cabela by officers, was shot twice in the neck and above the right shoulder but was alive. Two other officers worked to free Cabela from the railroad tracks and then rushed her to the Tampa Bay Veterinary Emergency Center.

Cabela will eventually need to have her right front leg amputated.

Police canvassed the Sulphur Springs neighborhood Thursday asking for more information.

“Ultimate goal, whoever did this needs to go to jail,” said Greg Koller, with Tampa Police.

Police told me they're getting some great tips from news viewers and they're hoping more information keeps rolling in.

Cabela is scheduled to have her surgery this week. Police say they'll have more word on how you can donate in the coming days.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is offering a $2,500 reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect who shot Cabela. Anyone with information is asked to call 813-231-6130.

In addition, Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information in the case. To be eligible, call Criem Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS, report online at crimestopperstb.com, text CSTB plus your tip to 274637 (CRIMES) or send a mobile tip using the Tipsubmit Mobile application.
