Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office detectives are conducting a death investigation after a body was found at the University Area Community Center Tuesday morning.

Just before 9 a.m. the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an employee of the University Area Community Center, 14013 N. 22nd Street, that there was a deceased woman lying on the ground next to the basketball courts.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and, with the assistance of medical personnel from the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office, confirmed that the victim exhibited obvious signs of homicidal violence to the upper body.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Samuel Elija Clarke, also known as India, of Tampa.

Clarke's parents said they last saw India at their home on Sunday.

"When he was leaving, he said, 'I love you dad, and I said, I love you, too, son, and that's the last time I talked to him," said father Samuel L. Clarke.

Clarke's family is also saying they hope this wasn't a hate crime.

"The Lord made us that way," Clarke said. "It's a shame that we could lose the life because of who we are."

"We're going to be doing a complete walk through of this park from front to back," said Hillsborough County Sheriff's Col. Donna Luscznski.

Detectives are asking for anyone with any information to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813-247-8200.
