Hernando deputies say a woman who crashed her car into a Hernando County Sheriff's deputy's patrol car Tuesday afternoon has been charged with DUI.

According to a Sheriff's Office report, at around 2:18 p.m. Jeannine Bruno, 43, of Spring Hill, crossed the median dividing Spring Hill Road at high speed and collided with an unmarked patrol car driven by Deputy Brian Smith.

Though injured in the crash, Deputy Smith was able to radio for assistance. He was transported to a local hospital by Hernando County Fire/Rescue.

While speaking with Bruno, deputies noticed she was unsteady on her feet. In addition, her eyes were bloodshot and watery, her speech was mumbled, and she had the scent of alcohol on her breath. She was arrested after deputies asked her to complete roadside sobriety exercises, the results of which indicated she was impaired.

When deputies investigated further, they discovered that Bruno had been driving with a suspended license. Her record showed seven prior suspensions and one cancellation.

Bruno was charged with driving under the influence, DUI-damage to person/property, and knowingly driving with a suspended/revoked license. She is being held on a $8,000 bond.
