MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Miami Beach police officer has turned over a video showing another officer punching an unarmed man in the face.

Officer Frederick Dominguez's attorney asked for whistleblower protection for his client on Wednesday for bringing attention to actions the officer thought constituted misconduct.

Miami Beach Police Chief Daniel Oates said in a statement Wednesday that the officer seen in the video punching the man has been taken off patrol duty and given a non-law-enforcement assignment until further notice.

The chief says an internal affairs investigation has been launched into the actions by that officer, who was identified in the statement as Officer Adriel Dominguez.

Officer Adriel Dominguez, who is unrelated to the officer who reported him, has worked for the department for two years.
