LONGWOOD, Fla. -- Wekiva Island is getting ready to transform into a winter wonderland, offering holiday entertainment during the month of December.

The Longwood destination's annual Winter Wonderland celebration officially kicks off November 30, with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The event runs through December 30 and will feature several holiday-themed activities, including a snow slide, train rides, ornament decorating and outdoor screenings of Christmas movies.

There will also be nightly sleigh rides on the river. Visitors can board pontoon boats decorated as a sleigh for a 35-minute ride down Wekiva River. Along the way, one of Santa's elves will share facts about wildlife and the environment.

The sleigh rides will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per adult and $10 per child.

Visitors will also have the chance to meet Santa, the Grinch and other characters.
