Friday’s event will kick off Hispanic Heritage month and it is to help encourage Hispanic people to get vaccinated. It will be held at Ana G. Mèndez University at 3655 West Waters Ave. in Tampa from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Former NFL players will be doing a meet and greet with people who come out, including Michael Clayton, a former wide receiver for the Buccaneers and is a Super Bowl champ.

Clayton said this event is also about educating people on the vaccine. He admits, he was hesitant to receive it himself, so he can relate to people.

“I was not going to get the vaccine. I was adamant about that. I'm a guy of faith, and I was one of those guys, I'm going to let God take care of everything, but as more information started to come out, I started to ask my healthcare provider, my doctor. I started to talk to my wife about it and she was on the frontlines every day, and hearing the information from Dr. Fauci. It just made sense what everyone was saying that we're more protected to get vaccinated,” said Clayton.

Clayton said there is still a huge discrepancy within the minority population when it comes to getting vaccinated, and he’s hoping this event helps.

“What we can control is making sure we make a sound decision to reach out to our communities of color to make sure they have the education to make their own informed decision, so we focus on our Hispanic communities, and our African-American communities and those communities of color because they usually tend to be underserved and undereducated,” said Clayton.

Friday’s event, though, is for everyone. Anyone can stop by and get the shot.
