A group of Hernando County elementary students are sending some holiday cheer to troops who are overseas.

A fifth-grade class at Brooksville Elementary School has put together a video message of thanks for the troops.  The video shows students as they read out loud from letters they wrote.

"I as an American citizen am thankful for all of you who sacrificed your time away from your loved ones," one student wrote.

"I can’t even imagine someone who is risking their life everyday and being away from their family for the holiday," another student read out loud.

Teacher Dell Barnes helped organize the video. Barnes is also a veteran.

"You know, the key thing is you felt it," he said. "It came right from their hearts and that was the touching thing. I believe when the troops hear what they have to say that they also will be touched."

In all, 21 students took part in the video, which took a day to shoot.

The video will now be aired on the school district's television channel before it is sent to the U.S. Army, so the video can be played for troops overseas.
